Desperate Measures (EmJC)

I’m 41 weeks and 3 days today. We just came back from the midwives who, once again, assured us that I’m fantastically far along and they will be very surprised to see us back again in the office. Now, however, they’ll really never see us back again: I’m scheduled for an induction Monday at 8pm.

IMG_1914We continue in our heroic efforts to get things moving. Yesterday, for example, I tried accupuncture for the first time. Accupuncture was the only suggestion in my pregnancy books for “naturally” inducing labor I had not yet tried (and there is some small amount of research suggesting it may actually be effective). I actually really liked the practitioner and in addition to the needles I received a lovely massage. Of course, nothing happened *BUT* I slept 8 hours last night so am feeling well today.

Right now, we’re heading out in an effort to walk the baby out again. It’s a beautiful day in Chicago.

I can’t tell you how many times people come to the hospital in labor the day of their scheduled induction. I know an induction wasn’t in your birth plan but you’ll have birdie and do beautifully regardless of plan or method. Much love! K

10 months ago, I was exactly where you are today! What finally worked was my hubby using maternal acupressure on me. We sent our 2 oldest kids to my in-laws and spend the entire weekend just activating acupressure points. Some did nothing and 2 created some WILD contractions.

Monday at 11:59pm my waters broke. Less than 3 hours later, I was holding my daughter.

It’s not for everyone, but it’s certainly less invasive than being medically induced.

Good luck… I don’t envy you, but it WILL be over SO soon!!
