We are headed to the hospital in a couple of hours. A great deal of our childbirth education and midwife appointments focused on staying at home as long as possible and postponing going to the hospital where you have much less control over things and are more likely to require interventions you hadn’t planned on. Therefore, it’s been a bit of a mind flip to be admitted for induction and it is certainly disappointing for me; it’s not at all what I imagined or had hoped for. However, it’s what’s happening and, happily, we get a baby out of it.
I like our hospital, Swedish Covenant, and not just because it has such a great name. It’s in a primarily immigrant neighborhood and Daniel and I are often the only English-speakers in the elevators and waiting rooms. They have four inpatient menus: “Regular”, Korean, Middle Eastern and Kosher. I also like that their motto is “Healing, Teaching, Preaching” and our pediatrician has a blog. The midwives are fantastic and I trust them to make this experience as smooth as possible. Also, our very favorite midwife is on call tomorrow and hopefully will deliver Birdie.
So we’re not completely certain how quickly things will happen but we’ll be sure to update the blog and keep you all in the loop.
Lucille was completely right.
P & V came over yesterday afternoon and we ate all 12 of the rugelach. And they’re delicious. Clearly, I’m favoring the mother-is-always-right slant these days. The 3/4 lbs of lox is also much less than that by now.
Rugelach Update (dmjg)
What Emily didn’t report was that when Lu found out all the rugelach had been eaten, she declaimed, “I told you. I will never listen to you again,” conveniently ignoring the fact that she didn’t listen to me the first time.

Good luck! Can’t wait to meet Birdie!
Thinking of you and wishing you an easy induction and a wonderful birth. See all three of you soon!
