It's amazing. They had a stand giving away free milk the year I was there 97) and my friend Luke had something like 50 glasses. Favorite memory: free live show by Garrison Keillor. He started riffing on the great corn dogs at the fair, then offered to buy one for whoever wanted one. I was one of only four to raise my hand, and sure enough, he sent someone out with his money to pick us all up a dog. Which is the reason that "Garrison Keillor Bought Me a Corn Dog" is going to be the name of my first album. I’ve been to that fair. It’s amazing. I love fairs! I went to the Lorraine County Fair (Ohio) and ate deep fried cheese on a stick, took in my first prize pig auction, and last but certainly not least, enjoyed a combine-thresher demolition derby. It was mesmerising. And as for the Illinois State Fair, David Foster Wallace has an awesome essay all about it. You should check it out. Love, Venus Oh man! I love fairs!
