The Halloween That Wasn’t or Why I Will Gain 5 Pounds This Week

We were preparing for hordes of neighborhood children descending on our house last night for Halloween. I spent – no kidding – 30 minutes at Target deciding how much and what kinds of candy to buy. Since we were new to the neighborhood, I wanted to be generous but purchase candy that had a chance of remaining uneaten by me in the 36 hours between my trip to Target and Halloween. I bought 200 pieces of candy and only 1 bag was candy that I actually liked. By sundown on Saturday night, we had an adorably costumed baby, a cauldron of very desirable candy and a carved and lit pumpkin.

And we had 7 trick-or-treaters.

I don’t know where all the children went. But their absence is my (weight) gain, unfortunately.

Had I known you had extra candy…I totally would have stopped in! Ellie was so cute and getting big!

I’ve still got loads of candy–in my office, could not keep them at home–from Halloween as well. I think I would have gained 5 pounds this week, but getting the flu killed my appetite, so there is now hopefully an overall net gain of zero.

If you bring the candy to the philosophy dept and leave it on the counter, it will literally disappear in seconds–try it!
