Here are some pictures I like, three of them featuring Belly (the dog), two of them featuring belly (the belly), and one of them featuring a CTA bus (click on the pictures for full size). And thanks to LBA for the use of her awesome lens.

De Due Due Due (dmjg)

Today is Birdie’s due date, but s/he doesn’t seem particularly eager to come out. Meanwhile, we’re sharpening our swaddling and Moby-ing skills. Pat the Bunny has been very accommodating and, of course, approximates a baby in every way, except that she is smaller and doesn’t mind being dropped.

Bringing On Baby (EmJC)

We had a midwife’s appointment yesterday: all is well. Her best guess is that Birdie is around 7 lbs. The midwife suggested some gentle ways of helping to bring on labor from the G (spicy foods, long walks) to PG (evening primrose oil in your vagina) to PG-13 (nipple stimulation) to R (what got us [...]

The skinny on the poop (dmjg)

S. has recently conjectured that dealing with poopy diapers will be the least of his problems, what with all the strange, new social dynamics that come with parenting (are we bad parents for not buying a $1000 stroller? My old boss from New York warned me about fetonyms (the name given to your baby in utero). Their child’s fetonym was Luigi (never quite explained to me – they’re not Italian, nor are they plumbers or video game addicts). These soon-to-be-parents became so accustomed to calling their Luigi, “Luigi”, it stuck and the child ended [...]

Hello ladies (dmjg)

We had a breastfeeding class at Swedish Covenant yesterday. Yes “we.” And we were the only “we” — no other husband/partner was there. I had a good time checking out nipple shields, nursing bras, breast pumps and numerous videos featuring multiple close-ups of the proper latch and how to achieve it. It was actually quite [...]

Gender Poll-itics (ejc)

We don’t know if the baby is a boy or a girl. But everyone else does. The numbers are in: 5 out of 5 Korean ladies at the nail salon agree it’s a boy since I am “all up high” (confirmed with the prods and pats of 10 beautifully-manicured hands). 3 out of 3 Female [...]

A conversation (dmjg)

Emily: If you could experience the pain of childbirth for me, would you? Daniel: (silence) Emily: Uh, Dan? Daniel: I would be willing to take half: it’s a question of justice.
